1933 is scant and what is available has been
provided by the archives section at Scout Headquarters. The movement in Chorley has developed since 1915 but with a number of changes, one of these being the title. At the start it was Withnell and Chorley Local Boy Scouts Association, then in 1933 the Association linked up with Leyland and in 1940 this was officially reflected in the title which became Chorley, Leyland and District. The registration certificate issued by Headquarters is still held in the District. In 1974 local government boundaries changed and Scouting boundaries reflected this change, Leyland was incorporated into South Ribble District and Chorley District Scout Council was formed. The Scout County of South West Lancashire was disbanded and Chorley District became part of the newly created Scout County of West Lancashire. Scout Groups can be identified by their Headquarters registration number. Using this as a guide there have been about eighty (including Leyland) Scout Groups in the District since 1915, but a number of them 'died', were reformed later and in some cases only to 'die' again!. The total number of Scout Groups in Chorley District is now seventeen. |
